My roommate and I live in a building with 3 floors... Our landlady lives on the ground floor, we live on the first floor, and, until today, a single girl in her late 20's lived above us on the second floor. She moved out this afternoon because she is getting married next month. She'll be spending these next few weeks in her hometown with her family.
She's been doing LOTS of shopping to get ready for the Big Day coming soon. Almost every night she would come to our flat to show us her new purchases. Last week, on one of those nights, she says to us, "So, what will you plan for my bachelor party?"
First we explain that it's actually a bachelor
ette party, and then we say, "Well, uhhhh, what did you have in mind?!" (because who knows what she's seen on TV and expects of an event like this!) She answers, "Oh you know, just a small dinner here at your house."
Whew! That was do-able! We told her she could invite some of her South Asian friends, but she said they would probably have to work. So, we invited two of our other American friends that she knows and planned to have the party last Friday night.
Her fiance lives in Texas, and that's where she'll be moving after her wedding...so, as part of her party, she wanted to come help us cook so she will know how to make something in America! Little did she know that we are NOT the people who need to be teaching her how to cook, but we gave it a shot!
We knew she is a vegetarian, so we planned accordingly and decided on doing fettucini alfredo (with some spiral looking pasta instead because fettucini was no where to be found) , a salad, garlic bread, and a coffee cake for dessert. Pretty simple...
She comes... and we cook... and she's amazed. She wants us to write it all down. We eat... and she loves it! (Thankfully!) Over dinner she wants to know exactly how to make the salad... and I explain that all she has to do is go to the vegetable section of the grocery store in America.. and then I explain that she'll actually be able to buy bagged, pre-mixed salads in America! Then she wanted to know how to make the dressing that my roommate mixed up... and we say, you just have to buy a bottle at the store! It's already made! We also explain that she can buy pre-made alfredo sauce...and for the coffee cake we made from scratch, we told her she could just buy a box!! So convenient! I'm pretty sure her mind will be
blown in a couple of months when she walks into an American grocery store!
So... with all of that said, here are a few pictures capturing our night :)...

After dessert, we watched a chick flick... and it was the perfect ending to our night! So, I would say our first attempt at planning a bachelorette party was a huge success! :)
